In the year 1992, a Sub-Committee on Education was set up by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centenary Celebrations Committee, which recommended a scheme for setting up subject-wise "Dr. Ambedkar Chairs" in different universities.

Dr. Ambedkar Chair At Andhra University:

Prof. James Stephen Meka assumed charge as Fulltime Chair Professor on 24-NOV-2022 forenoon at Andhra University. As per the MoU between the historic Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi, Dated 22-04-22, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair at Andhra University shall work on the following Thrust Area.
